  • 6:35AM - Maureen is sound asleep.

  • 7:10AM - No change. She did sneeze once at 7:06AM.

  • 7:31AM - I just checked on Maureen in the bedroom. She continues to sleep soundly

  • 7:51AM - Visited the bedroom again. Maureen is beginning to rustle a wee bit. She remains sound asleep.

  • 8:15AM - Maureen is now awake. She is a bit groggy. Djon and I decided to wait a few minutes so that she can get her bearings.

  • Maureen began her day @ 8:26AM. She is slightly sleepy but alert and engaged. Congestion is typical for first thing in the morning. The diaper was dry. Click/tap here to view a detailed overview of the process Djon and I use to get Maureen ready for the day.

  • Even though the diaper was dry, we decided clean & change Maureen in order to assess the potential pressure ulcer. Djon examined the red area. He characterized it as a stage 2 pressure ulcer because the skin is broken. Click here to view a page in the Johns Hopkins Medicine site that provides an overview of pressure ulcer stages. I took the attached image after Djon completed his examination of the area.

  • General observation @ 8:45AM> Maureen's nose is very stuffy.

  • 8:52AM - Maureen feel asleep in the chair for nine minutes

  • 9:01AM - Upon waking up, Maureen went through a period of 6-7 minutes where she tried to clean her throat.

  • Breakfast service began @ 9:10AM. Posture in the geri chair is almost perfect. Djon mashed the banana with a fork and pureed the oatmeal. Click/tap here for detailed overview of the entire breakfast service process Tom and I use each day.

  • 9:10AM - Djon administered a dose of Flonase into each nostril.

  • Daily MiraLAX dosage: 1/2 cap mixed in with six ounces of prune juice

  • General observations @ 9:40AM> Breakfast went well especially in light of what we have been dealing with during the last three to four days. Coughing was not horrible—5 coughs, of them 4 were red faced. Maureen had a good amount of energy throughout the breakfast service. Engagement and communication were decent. Djon and I are pleased that the day has gotten off to a good start.

  • 9:48AM - Morning oral care routine

  • 9:55AM - Morning facial care including arm and hands.

  • 10:00AM - Duoneb treatment delivered via the nebulizer. Click here for an overview of Duoneb.

  • 10:10AM - Maureen nodded off immediately after the nebulizer treatment ended.

  • 11:22AM - Maureen remains fairly soundly asleep in the geri chair. As soon as she wakes, Djon and I are going to take her to the bedroom for a clean and change. We will also ensure she gets a full hour on her side in light of the developing pressure ulcer on her sacrum.

  • 12:00PM - Maureen remained in a sound sleep. Djon and I did not want to wait any longer to start the first rest break—especially since a potential pressure ulcer is developing. We decided to transport Maureen to the bedroom for Rest Break #1. Diaper was medium wet. Upon completion of the clean & change process, Djon and I placed Maureen on her right side.

  • 12:19PM - Rest Break #1 begins.

  • 1:32PM - Rest Break #1 concludes. Maureen did not sleep at all during the break. Diaper is dry. Djon and I dressed Maureen. We then headed to the kitchen for lunch.

  • 1:42PM - Lunch | Djon prepared the following pureed menu items: casserole, squash and zucchini. Maureen will consume one 12-ounce bottle of Harmless Harvest Organic Coconut Water for lunch.

  • General observations @ 2:10PM> Lunch went well. Maureen coughed only a few times. Her energy level picked up significantly during the lunch service. She was and continues to be engaged and chatty with Tom, Djon and me. Maureen did lean pretty hard to he left during the lunch service. The same thing happened this morning.

  • 3:08PM - We headed to the bedroom for what will be an abbreviated Rest Break #2. Diaper was light wet. Maureen also had a little fecal discharge. After completing a clean & change, Djon and I placed Maureen on her right side.

  • 3:17PM - Rest Break #2 begins.

  • 4:19PM - Rest Break #2 concludes. Diaper was medium wet. Maureen had a large loose bowel movement. A fair amount of the stool seeped through the lower end of the diaper. Djon thoroughly and meticulously cleaned Maureen. We got Maureen dressed and headed to the front room.

  • Djon and I examined the developing pressure ulcer on the sacrum. It does not look any worse or better.

  • 4:45PM - Duoneb treatment delivered via the nebulizer. Click here for an overview of Duoneb.

  • 5:00PM - Small fruit snack | Djon cut some watermelon into very small pieces and pureed some cantaloupe and pineapple.

  • 6:28PM - Dinner | Djon prepared a serving of beef, broccoli and rice that Carolyn made and brought to the house yesterday.

  • General observations @ 6:34PM> Maureen had a wonderful afternoon. Fruit snack went down extremely well—only one cough. Maureen was very chatty throughout the television shows this afternoon. She was relatively engaged and attentive—responding to verbal cues fairly frequently.

  • 7:05 pm - 10 ml VIMPAT and 5 mg OLANZAPINE with applesauce.

  • 7:10PM - Evening oral care

  • 7:30PM - We headed to the bedroom. Applied Cetaphil Lotion and Vick’s. Diaper was medium wet. Maureen had a slight amount of fecal discharge. After Djon and I completed a clean & change, we placed Maureen on her left side.
