That's New | Medication to address heavy coughing and phlegm

bjtm65

Maureen has been coughing very hard, to the point of often being red faced, and expectorating large amounts of phlegm during the last several days. One positive note is all of the phlegm has been clear—not light green. This is an indication that there is no infection.

During her visit to the house yesterday, Maureen's JourneyCare nurse Ann listened to her lungs. She detected some faint sounds that are a slight concern—especially due to the expectoration of the phlegm.

Ann discussed Maureen's current situation with her JourneyCare physician. In order to proactively address this situation, he prescribed Duoneb (Ipratropium Bromide and Albutoerol Inhalation Sulfate Solution) to be administered via the nebulizer. We will administer this drug every 6 hours for the next three days.

Ann from JourneyCare did clearly tell us that the most likely side effect will be an increased volume of coughing. Click here to view a complete list of the potential side effects.

Please contact Tom or Brian if you have any questions.
