That's New | Unsuccessful attempt to use the new Liko hygiene sling

bjtm65

Maya and I attempted to use the new Liko hygiene sling to place Maureen on the commode. We were able to transfer Maureen to the commode—placed in the front room. Although we accomplished the move, Maureen looked extremely awkward/uncomfortable in the sling. She did not wince or voice any displeasure. Once seated on the commode, we had to pull fairly hard on both sides to get her pants and pull up down far enough. We waited 10 minutes. Maureen did not urinate or move her bowels. The transfer back to the day chair was far more difficult. Due to Maureen's complete lack of arm strength/control, she began to slip through the opening at the bottom. Fortunately, Maya and I noticed it right away. We got Maureen back into the day chair immediately—half clothed and in a very odd position. The three of us proceed to the bedroom where we did a manual transfer from the day chair to the bed. Maya and I proceeded to get Maureen dressed. We used the Hoyer lift to transfer Maureen from the bed to the day chair. Based on today's events, I am not optimistic that we can make the Liko hygiene sling work. We will definitely try a few more times—experimenting with different ways to attach the loop to the boom.
