Maureen's PT Ann Wilczynski arrived at the house for her second visit. She took Maureen's blood pressure: 134/62. Maureen's temperature was 98.7.

When Ann arrived, Maureen was in the kitchen in the day chair. Ann stood behind Maureen and pulled her shoulders back on several occasions. After that, Ann decided it was best to work with Maureen while she was sitting up in the lift recliner.

Ann asked that we position Maureen sitting up on the very front of the recliner. She then proceeded to spend a good amount of time trying to get Maureen to sit upright unassisted. We met with limited success. I asked Ann if she thought a massage from a professional masseuse would be worthwhile. She said it definitely could not hurt—that there is no downside.

Maya and I asked Ann if it is good for Maureen to spend longer amounts of time slumping forward in the day chair. Ann recommended keeping Maureen in the day chair for a maximum of one hour when there is slumping. Ann also reaffirmed that the day chair is not designed for a patient to sit in for extended periods of time.

In terms of techniques/to dos, Ann recommended we do the following whenever possible/practical:

  1. Sit on Maureen's right to provide an incentive for her to look that way.

  2. Manually turn Maureen's head 5-7 degrees to the right on a somewhat regular basis throughout each day. This is another exercise we can incorporate into the regular routine.

Ann's next visit will be on Thursday July 8 @ 10:00AM.
