Updated: Sep 8, 2022

  • 6:35AM - Maureen is sound asleep.

  • 7:02AM - No change. Maureen continues to sleep. She moves her legs a bit from time to time.

  • 7:20AM - Maureen woke up. She was moaning quietly every so often. Looked a bit startled. She did not exhibit any of the key seizure signs.

  • 7:35AM - She coughed hared 2-3 times. Djon used the suction machine to capture a small amount of phlegm.

  • 7:45AM - Back to sleep.

  • 8:35AM - Maureen remains asleep. No change.

  • Maureen began her day @ 9:00AM. After an extra hour of sleep, she is in good form. Congestion appears to be somewhat heavy. She coughed heavily 3-4 times in the 30 minutes prior to 9:00AM. The diaper is dry. Click/tap here to view a detailed overview of the process Djon and I use to get Maureen ready for the day.

  • 9:15AM - Duoneb treatment delivered via the nebulizer. Click here for an overview of Duoneb.

  • Breakfast service began @ 9:28AM. Posture in the geri chair is very good. We used the two green wedge pillows and the red couch pillow to set Maureen up perfectly. Djon mashed the banana with a fork. He pureed the oatmeal for 3-4 seconds. Click/tap here for detailed overview of the entire breakfast service process Djon and I use each day.

  • Daily MiraLAX dosage: None

  • General observations @ 10:08AM> The morning went well. Maureen had an above average amount of energy. She was alert/engaged/communicative for the most part. Chewing and swallowing was acceptable—coughed five times. It is likely the pureed oatmeal and smashed banana helped. As of the writing this this update, I can tell Maureen's energy is beginning to ebb. Big picture—the day has gotten off to a great start.

  • 10:12AM - Morning oral care routine

  • 10:25AM - Maureen fell asleep in the geri chair. We tilted the chair back one notch at 10:30AM for her comfort. She remains asleep.

  • That's New> Maureen has a very small patch of red skin on the upper inner corners of each eye socket. The two spots are almost perfectly symmetrical. Djon and I did not apply anything to the spots since they are too close to Maureen's eyes.

  • 11:01AM - Maureen is still sleeping.

  • 11:22AM - Maureen just woke up. She is somewhat groggy.

  • 11:30AM - We headed to the bedroom for what will be an abbreviated Rest Break #1. The diaper was light wet. After completing a clean & change, Djon and I placed Maureen on her left side.

  • 11:44AM - Rest Break #1 begins. Maureen had a series of 4-5 heavy red faced coughs with phlegm about seven minutes into the rest break while on her side. Djon has the suction machine with him in the bedroom. He is using it to capture as much of the phlegm as possible.

  • 12:36PM - Rest Break #1 concludes. Diaper was dry. We dressed Maureen and headed out to the kitchen for lunch.

  • General observations @ 12:40PM> Maureen had a series of hard/red faced coughs during the rest break. She coughed so hard on several occasions that she passed gas. There has been a lot of phlegm today but less than yesterday.

  • 12:46PM - Lunch | Djon pureed servings of the following: Chesapeake Bay shrimp salad, 1/4 bowl of homemade lentil soup, and a medley of grilled squash and zucchini.

  • General observations @ 1:23PM> Lunch went well considering everything that is going on right now. Maureen only coughed one time. It is too early to draw any hard conclusions as this point; however, it is very likely pureeing the food helped. Maureen was not willing to take many sips of coconut water. This is a first. Lunch is over and we still have 3/4 of a bottle of water. It is also obvious that Maureen's energy is quickly dissipating.

  • 1:30PM - Djon administered a dose of Flonase into each nostril.

  • 2:00PM - Afternoon oral care

  • 2:01PM - Maureen has now consumed 3/4 of the bottle of coconut water.

  • 2:05PM - Maureen's brother Bart arrived for a visit. Djon and I took Maureen to the bedroom for a clean & change. The diaper was dry. We immediately transported Maureen to the front room and set her up in the lift recliner for a visit with Bart.

  • 2:22PM - Maureen begins a visit with her brother Bart.

  • 2:53PM - Djon smelled a bowel movement. Bart decided to leave so that Djon and I could clean & change Maureen. We transported Maureen back to the bedroom. Maureen had a large and loose bowel movement. The diaper was not wet. After completing the clean & change, Djon and I took Maureen back to the front room.

  • 3:29PM - Duoneb treatment delivered via the nebulizer. A treatment last 10 minutes. Click here for an overview of Duoneb.

  • 3:45PM - 1/2 of an organic fruit smoothie
