One of the biggest threats to Maureen's overall health continues to be aspiration pneumonia—where solids or liquids enter her lungs. An essential best practice to use at all times is portion control.

Speech therapist Christina Padilla of NorthShore Medical was one of the most helpful medical professionals to ever visit the house. She gave us a number of very valuable tips—many of which we use to this very day.

The single best recommendation Christine gave us was to limit the portion fed to Maureen to the size of a die. It is our golden rule. As you are feeding Maureen, If you are not sure, always err on the side of less not more.

During this period of time where Maureen is less alert and engaged due to the addition of the second anti-seizure medication, it now more important than ever to ensure that we give Maureen the proper portion size—no more than the size of a die.

Thank you in advance for making this a part of your daily routine. Please contact Tom, Carolyn or me if you have any questions.
