Happy St. Patrick's Day

March 17th has always been a very special day for the Murphy family. All four of Maureen's grandparents emigrated from Ireland to America in the early 1900s. Our parents, Bart and Peggy, imbued in all of us a great awareness and appreciation for our Irish heritage. We all wear the green with an immense sense of pride.

Maureen's uncle Tom was a Catholic priest. He offered the following perspective in a column written in 1981 on how his parents shared the traditions and culture of Ireland with him, "For myself, St. Patrick's Day is a reminder to me of my parents - two people who crossed an ocean at the beginning of this century to begin a new life in a vibrant country. Their journey brought them together in the Midwest and they began to share a life together. Their sharing of life and love brought forth three other human beings with whom they shared a faith and a set of values and lifestyle that affects me to this day."

In closing, I will share a traditional Irish blessing with you that no doubt beautifully encapsulates what Maureen would say to all of us on this most auspicious day.

An Irish Blessing

May love and laughter light your days and warm your heart and home.

May good and faithful friends be yours, wherever you may roam.

May peace and plenty bless your world with joy that long endures.

May all life’s passing seasons bring the best to you and yours.

8:00am Maureen just calmly woke accepting sips of water via swab soon after. 8:30pm Maureen went back to sleep. 9:00am Maureen is asleep....
