April 21 daytime update

  • 6:30AM - Maureen is awake. He diaper is dry. Maya will give Maureen sips of water via a mouth swab between now and the time her day begins—as long as Maureen remains fully awake.

  • Maureen began her day @ 8:05AM. She is alert and engaged. Congestion is heavy. The diaper is medium wet. Click here to view a detailed overview of the process Maya and I use to get Maureen ready for the day.

  • As the day began, we noted that outer side of Maureen's right foot below the protruding bone (Lateral Malleolus) was tender to the touch. This area looked "a little puffy" according to Maya. There is no bruising or redness. We should all keep an eye on this in the coming days—especially when turning Maureen.

  • While we were cleaning Maureen's upper body, Maya noted a few small red areas on the right side of the waistline. She applied trace amounts of Nystatin Ointment to each of these areas.

  • Breakfast service began @ 8:49AM. Posture in the geri chair is very good. Maureen's head was tilting back a few degrees. Maya inserted the red velour couch pillow to get Maureen's head positioned at a proper angle to enjoy her breakfast. Click/tap here for detailed overview of the entire breakfast service process Maya and I use each day.

  • Daily MiraLAX dosage: 1/2 cap

  • General observations @ 9:32AM> We broke out of the gate decently. Maureen's energy is less than the three preceding days. Engagement, communication and responsiveness are all good. Coughing is a little more than we would like—4 at this point and breakfast is almost finished.

  • 9:51AM - Morning oral care routine

  • 10:01AM - We tilted the geri chair back one notch for Maureen's comfort and to relieve the pressure from her sacrum.

  • 10:03AM - Eyelash cleaning and eye drops.

  • 10:17AM - Morning facial treatment including hands and arms

  • 10:40AM - Organic fruit smoothie

  • 11:00AM - Michael Osel stopped by with some cookies for Maureen.

  • 11:07AM - We headed to the bedroom to prepare for Rest Break #1. Diaper was light wet. Maureen had a medium soft bowel movement. Maya and I performed a thorough clean & change. We then placed Maureen on her right side.

  • 11:28AM - Rest Break #1 begins

  • 12:40PM - Rest Break #1 ends. Diaper is medium wet. Maya and I performed a clean & change. Afterwards, we took Maureen to the kitchen for lunch.

  • 12:54PM - Lunch | Maya prepared 1/2 a homemade egg salad sandwich on toasted whole wheat, 1/2 bowl of homemade meatball soup and a serving of beats. Maureen will consume one 12-ounce bottle of Harmless Harvest Organic Coconut water during lunch. For dessert, she will enjoy a small serving of rice pudding.

  • General observations @ 1:28PM> Maureen had low energy throughout the lunch service. Her head was tilted back a few degrees, Maya and I put the red velour couch pillow behind her head. Maureen coughed quite often during lunch—12 in total. She continues to be rather heavily congested.

  • 2:05PM - Afternoon oral care

  • 2:15PM - We headed to the bedroom to prepare for what will be an abbreviated Rest Break #2. Diaper was medium wet. Maureen has a very small soft bowel movement. Maya and I performed a clean and change. We then placed Maureen on her right side.

  • 2:30PM - Rest Break #2 begins.

  • 3:00PM - Rest Break #2 ends. Diaper is light wet. Maya and I performed a clean & change. We then transported Maureen to the front room and placed her in the lift recliner.

  • 3:20PM - Small fruit snack
