We requested a visit by a NorhtShore RN to assess/evaluate the pressure sore on the small of Maureen's back. Carolyn put together the following notes that summarize the 9/5/21 visit:
NorthShore RN Ginny interviewed us, looked at the pics of the progression and looked at the three wounds on Maureen’s posterior. She complimented the caregivers and said her overall skin is well cared for.
The pic from today shows the pressure sore healing nicely from her and our point of view. The other two bite like wounds are healing nicely as well.
Ginny was complimentary of the two products we have: Mupirocin and 3M Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film 1ml wand shields.
After thoroughly cleaning the area with Aloe Vesta foam and letting it dry, Ginny applied the 3M Cavilon no sting barrier film. She used the applicator wand to cover only the pressure sore. She used the Mupirocin Cream on the other two areas of concern. From this point forward, we will no longer use the A+D Ointment.
Apply the Cavilon barrier film once per day in the morning. The Mupirocin cream is to be applied three times per day; morning, night and sometime during the day when she is being changed.
There is no need to remove the Cavilon film.
The nurse wants us to continue all of the following protocols in order to take pressure off of Maureen’s posterior: A> Use of waffle pillow, B> Turning her in bed, C> Moving her in the day every few hours to different chairs and D> Changing her frequently
One suggestion she made was that we could put a wedge pillow or something under one side of the buttock, raising it just 10 degrees to alleviate the pressure on her tailbone, when she is sitting.
The nurse also concurred that applying the 3M Cavilon Barrier Cream, an additional product, would be good to the buttocks area but not the current wounds.
Ginny is a weekend nurse. She is arranging to have a nurse come out two times a week to check progress. They will contact Tom’s cell.
